<要旨>
<Abstract>
A global outbreak of covid has completely changed our lives and has accelerated the digitalization in many countries and driven the trends in remote work. In the field of education, the promotion of digitalization and remote learning has also commenced. Prior to the pandemic, several policies were proposed by Japanese government regarding the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) related to education. While Japanese schools have been slow to embrace digital transformation, the introduced policies have proven their worth during the recent school closures. Nowadays the debate on ICT in Japan has moved beyond the question of whether the ICT is effective for the learning to whether it can be a solution to the contemporary social challenges Japan is facing such as population decline and an aging population. It is to be said the negative impact of covid on education could cost our children hundreds of billions of dollars in future earnings. However, it is indubitable that the deployment of ICT will scale up the recovery and given the potential of ICT to address social issues in Japan, it is crucial to examine the ways in which it can be utilized
effectively.
